Last November 23, Henrik Stenson completed an historic double at the Earth Course in Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai. Stenson carded a closing 70 to successfully defend the European Tour season-ending Dubai World Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates. He finished with a four-day total of 16 under par, two shots ahead of ‘Race to Dubai’ winner Rory McIlroy and Ryder Cup teammates Justin Rose and Victor Dubuisson to end the year on a high note.
Just a day later, competitors then became friends as both Stenson and Dubuisson returned to the teebox, but this time The Els Club and in friendlier conditions.
Swiss Haute Horlogerie brand Audemars Piguet organised its first ever golf event in Dubai with seven brand ambassadors and two additional professional golfers. Stenson and Dubuisson were joined by fellow AP ambassadors Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Louis Oosthuizen and the legendary Sir Nick Faldo. Bernd Wiesberger from Austria and Jonas Blixt from Sweden, completed the astonishing field for the day.
Following the success of the previous New York editions of the Audemars Piguet Golf Invitational, the Manufacture from Le Brassus brought the unique experience here. Upon their arrival in the city of superlatives, guests from 16 different countries first visited the surrounding desert then had close glimpses at the iconic buildings, Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab before finally meeting with their professional counterparts this very day for a fun demonstration and shared round of golf that includes a longest drive competition and balloons-hitting contest.
“Audemars Piguet and its Ambassadors have won over the world with their ingenuity and pursuit of perfection, becoming leaders in their own fields,” said Francois-Henry Bennahmias, CEO of Audemars Piguet.
Rigorous discipline, the key to striking a perfect balance between precision, technique and artistry is one characteristic all seven ambassadors share. These passionate golfers fully master their sport and work tirelessly to push their boundaries further by constantly outperforming themselves. These are the players who share the Audemars Piguet spirit: ‘To break the rules, you must first master them’.
During the event, guests and ambassadors alike had the opportunity to see and try a selection of the 2014 collection, notably the Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Tourbillon Chronograph released at Hong Kong’s Watches & Wonders fair less than two months earlier, at the Audemars Piguet boutique in the Dubai Mall, completing an eventful day for aficionados of both the sport and the hobby. It can be said then, that the passion for both is indeed mutually inclusive.
